Jolt is an electricity-using superhero who combines innate abilities with technology to augment his powers. He fights crime while searching for the truth behind the accident that gave him his powers.
Born and raised in Seattle, Andrew Starkings’ family moved to Millennium city when he was young to take advantage of the opportunities presented in the “city of the future”. Growing up with an interest in electronics, Andrew’s hobby grew as he went through high school and then later university as he began to apply his knowledge and skill.
Working from several ideas he developed, Andrew began work on an experimental generator and battery system, one that was potentially more powerful and efficient then more current power systems. After many months of theoretical work, he finally developed a prototype of his new generator system. However, things did not go as planned. During its first test-run, the generator overloaded and exploded, nearly killing him in the process.
Except he wasn’t dead; instead he found that his body had been somehow charged by the energies released during the explosion, crackling with stored electrical power. Careful examination and experimentation found that he could release blasts of electrical energy, using his own body as a power source, as well as being able to discretely control and manipulate electrical fields that he generated.
Probing the remains of his generator revealed something less encouraging, however. The unit had exploded because it had been sabotaged; its safety and governing systems had all been disabled, presumably to cause it to overload and blow up – and take him with it. Realising that somebody had tried to kill him, Andrew decided on a course of action to best employ his newfound powers.
Using his skills, he constructed a unique battery system as well as a pair of focusing gauntlets that allowed him to enhance his powers. Incorporating them into a costume, he took the name “Jolt”, and began searching for answers to the questions regarding his “accident”. While initially just focused on investigating the explosion, as time went on, Jolt found himself more and more involved with fighting crime in general as his work lead him to cross paths with various criminal elements. Furthermore, he found that not only was he decent at it, he also derived a great deal of satisfaction from using his powers to fight crime and help others.
While continuing his search, Jolt has been spending more and more time in Millennium city, openly working to protect the city from the various super-powered threats that menace the population. However, as he has discovered more about what happened, he has begun to realise that it was one of those threats that was responsible for the explosion.
The accident imbued Andrew with electrical power, transforming his body into a living battery of sorts, crackling with energy. Aside from being able to store energy, he is able to release it in bursts of electrical power, from concentrated lighting bolts to explosive balls of energy. He has also discovered a degree of ability to “shape” the energy he projects, creating protective shields and even energy “wings” that allow him to glide short distances.
To enhance his own powers, Jolt has built several devices that he uses in addition to these abilities. He wears a pair of armoured gauntlets that help him to focus and direct his powers, as well as enhancing their output. These, in turn, are connected to a backpack which contains a storage battery that can also be used to boost his powers if needs be. Finally, his costume also includes an armoured chestplate and helmet.
Andrew is a basically good person, He is motivated chiefly by a desire to help others and to do the right thing; he feels that the powers he possesses are to be used responsibly and for the benefit of others, and to do otherwise would be to squander the gift that he has been given. A rather altruistic person, he occasionally can be somewhat naïve and too trusting. More then once, he has been deceived by a supervillain promising to surrender, only to attack him by surprise.
Outside of fighting crime, his main interest lies in experimenting with various devices and technologies; something of a tinker in his spare time, he is constantly looking at various devices and ways to improve them. The systems he uses on his suit are his own creations, ones that he is rather proud of, and he is constantly working to improve them.
He also is somewhat driven by a desire to find out exactly who was responsible for the explosion and why they did it. While he has devoted a lot of time and energy towards the goal, he so far has precious little information and nothing that gives him a tangible lead.
Andrew is somewhat clumsy and shy around women; he is noticeably less so when in his armour, simply because they cannot see his face.
Andrew is a handsome young man in his early 20s; he has sharp features, blue eyes and long black hair that he wears in a ponytail, despite the impracticalities that it presents. He is clean shaven and lacks any truly distinguishing marks or features.
As Jolt, he wears a white suit decorated with an electric purple trim. The suit sports as bulk backpack containing the batteries, as well as hefty armoured gauntlets that cover his wrists and hands; these areas are shiny silver with glowing blue highlights. His face is concealed by a helmet.
